Vintage Hungarian Furniture

Have you seen our unique vintage pieces? At Design Vintage, when we say ‘vintage’ we do actually mean vintage rather than distressed to look old!  Our vintage furniture comes from Hungary where we have been working with the same lovely family for over 6 years. They source our pieces from local village stores, pharmacies, local homes and even schools and convents!

Most of the pieces date from the late 1800s and early 1900s up to the 1930s, when this style of furniture was very common. Every Hungarian village had a shop and every shop was fitted out with wooden cabinets. When these shops decided ‘modern’ was the way to go, the original fittings were stripped out ensuring a great supply of pieces for our wonderful Hungarian carpenters to restore.  The family we work with only employ expert craftspeople, who use traditional methods to lovingly restore each piece. They then paint the furniture to our specifications.

We think the results are unique and beautiful and it appears you love them too! The furniture pieces that put the ‘vintage’ in DV don’t hang around for long – either on the website or in-store.  So if you are looking for a special piece of furniture for your home, do keep an eye on our collection!  Units like this one above make perfect kitchen islands because they always have beautifully panelled backs. They also work well as sideboards or dressers as the fronts are open and often have drawers for extra storage.

In addition to the counter units, our Hungarian vitrines have become our bestselling item and deservedly so!  The original door panels are often replaced with glass to create stunning cupboards which can be used everywhere from kitchens to playrooms, and even bathrooms.

Our collection also  includes original settle benches, drawer units and smaller wooden cabinets. In an assortment of paint finishes, we source a variety of sizes and shapes.

 Which colour are you?  Our most popular colour is our own creation – a dark charcoal grey. You can also choose tones of white or pale grey and every piece comes with a natural, lightly distressed and waxed finish.

New vintage furniture pieces every month!  Deliveries arrive from Hungary every month and they vanish fast! Some pieces are even pre-ordered and sold before they make it onto our website.
