    The Design Vintage Candle

    September 10, 2024

Three gorgeous signature scents, hand blended by us with wellness in mind.

Our beautiful new Essential Oils Candle Collection is here and the scents are just divine. We sat down with our Founder, Lisa, to discuss what went into creating our very own candles.

    The Design Vintage Candle

What inspired you to create your own candle?

Having our own signature candles is something I’ve wanted to do for years, but somehow it kept getting lost in the To Do list! So often I fall for a gorgeous scent in a shop only to light it at home and find that it doesn’t smell quite enough when lit.  Worse, some of them would burn with black smoke which not only ruins the experience and taints the air we breathe, but is a nightmare in an all white house like mine.  So many candles still contain harmful ingredients like paraffin and synthetic fragrances and it can be hard to tell which are natural and which are not.

The goal behind this new collection was to create a candle that actually smells amazing when lit, is free of chemicals and looks gorgeous on your coffee table.  A combination that seems surprisingly hard to come by without an unrealistic price tag.

What was the inspiration behind the scents?

I usually light a candle in the kitchen after I’ve finished cooking, I’ll have one going in the living room when guests come over and I’ll often have one lit in the bedroom to help me unwind after a busy day.  Our three signature scents were created with these rooms in mind.  We have plans for more blends to follow this initial launch and are working on these at the moment.

Essential Oil Candle No 1 is a gorgeous blend of Lavender, Lemon, Rosemary and Eucalyptus.  Perfect for clearing away any unwanted cooking smells, this scent completely fills a room with its fresh, clean and uplifting aroma.

Essential Oil Candle No 2 blends Geranium and Lavender to create a calming and grounding scent.  After a particularly busy or stressful day, I love lighting this one in the bedroom.

Essential Oil Candle No 3 is a blend of Eucalyptus, Grapefruit and Geranium.  A gorgeous scent to fill your living space giving it a fresh, spa like smell.

    Why aromatherapy?

I wanted to move away from synthetic fragrances and with a natural blend of Rapeseed and Coconut wax and high quality, pure essential oils we’ve created our scents with the focus firmly on the therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy.  With benefits like improved sleep quality, reduced stress and anxiety and a boost for your mood and relaxation, it was a priority for me to make sure these candles were made in the right way.

The natural wax blend used means that the candles burn cleanly and evenly too.  Always a stickler for the details!  It was so important to me that we are able to create and produce these candles entirely ourselves and I’m lucky enough to have the lovely Nic on our office team, who just happens to be an expert in all things aromatherapy and candles.  Working together we’ve been able to produce every element of these products in house and it’s been a joy to finally bring this project to store!

What was the inspiration behind the design?

I was drawn to the Kilner jars because they have that simple, rustic charm that can be so versatile!  They not only look great but also make the candles feel more personal and reusable.  In contrast, the amber jar is a real favourite and has added a touch of autumn to my home.  Of course the DV aesthetic guided these selections, with a clean and minimalist design that I hope will look just as beautiful as they smell in your homes.

    Enjoy! x
