Four Tranquil Autumn Staycations

September 1, 2023

Autumn staycations.  As temperatures start to cool and the days grow shorter, Autumn feels like the ideal time to hit pause on routine and escape for some much needed TLC.  Whether you’re looking for cultural getaways, a digital detox or that much needed Spa-like retreat, we’ve got you covered.

The family run Farm’otel: Outbuildings Dorset

First up on our list of the Staycations we’re coveting: Outbuildings.  Set on a family farm in the West Dorset countryside, Outbuildings is a collection of beautifully refurbished outbuildings providing luxury in a rural setting.  With the choice of seven rooms including a converted chicken coop complete with an Al-fresco copper bathtub and a restored old pig sty, these unique spaces serve up an abundance of comfort and charm.

Rooms aren’t the only service they offer either.  Fancy a movie night?  The Hay Barn Cinema (or rather a renovated sheep box) provides all the comforts of a high-end cinema and the champagne and hot tub experience has us booking our stay as we speak.  Who’s joining us?

A chance to switch off: Unplugged

Unplug.  We don’t do it enough!  In a world that’s constantly buzzing with digital distractions, finding a way to unplug and rejuvenate has become more important than ever.  Unplugged offers a technology-free take on staycations, with each beautiful off-grid cabin located just a short distance outside of city life.  Phones are locked away on arrival, replaced with books and games, an instant camera and maps to explore the surrounding area. There’s even a cosy log burner to curl up in front of each evening.

Humans have always escaped to nature as an antidote to hectic city life. The issue is that now so many of us just wouldn’t know where to start.

We’re glued to our phones, inundated with push notifications & respond to emails at all times of the day. Ben and Hector, founders of Unplugged, are on a mission to help you unplug from your devices so that you can recharge.

They have built these beautiful cabins in locations within easy reach of a variety of UK cities including Manchester, London and Brighton.

Three nights of uninterrupted peace and quiet, and did we mention they’re dog friendly?  We’re sold!

Spa staycations: The Pig in the South Downs

Located just a short drive away from us at DV, is The Pig Hotel.  Nestled into the picturesque South Downs, The Pig offers an abundance of  rustic charm.  Rooms range from restored garden wagons to timber-clad stable yard buildings.  At the heart of the main house lies their restaurant showcasing locally sourced ingredients often from the hotel’s own gardens.

A short stroll through the Kitchen Gardens lands you at the doors of the Potting Shed Treatment Rooms where you can experience a range of spa-like treatments including organic facials and hot stone massages.  It’s a big tick from us!

Historic charm: Number 3, Bath

Renowned for its historic charm, stunning Georgian architecture, and natural thermal springs, Bath is the go-to for that cultural hit.

Last up on our list of coveted autumn staycations, is Number 3.  This beautiful Grade II-listed apartment sits in the artisan quarter of Bath surrounded by galleries, antique dealers and independent shops.  We don’t know about you, but that dining room has us questioning whether we’ll even want to leave the apartment.

Be it Spa like treatments or a phone free weekend, we’re sure these autumn staycations will supply TLC in abundance.  Our only dilemma is which one to book first?!
